The Performance Matrix
MOVEMENT EFFICIENCY FOR A LIFETIME

the focus series:

Low back and pelvis

Take Movement Optimisation to the next level with a focus on designing, implementing and adapting retraining strategies for low back and pelvic weak links

BOOK A PLACE ON THIS COURSE

What's in it for you?

'I can now be far more precise about exercise prescription and design training to fix the movement impairment'

Designed to enable you to have an in depth knowledge to manage effectively weak links at the low back and pelvis. Loads of practical application will give you the know how to design and implement training strategies to optimise movement.

Taking Anatomy into Function

COURSE CONTENT

 The course content will include:

  • Practical application of the design and implementation of training strategies to fix weak links at the low back and pelvis
  • Linking uncontrolled movement to functional anatomy and biomechanics
  • Alignment and posture and how these are influenced by weak links
  • Mastering the identification of uncontrolled movements at the lower back and pelvis
  • Functional anatomy: what muscles do, understanding which muscle link to which weak links
  • Strategies to regain control of strength and speed weak links (both controlling the weak link and targeting specific muscles). These high threshold recruitment strategies will include the use of speed and unstable bases to optimise control
  • Strategies to regain control of alignment and coordination weak links (both controlling the weak link and targeting specific muscles).  These low threshold recruitment strategies will focus on regaining motor control and will include facilitation strategies, cuing and encouraging mindful movement
  • Adapting repertoire to target the specific movement fault
  • Taking it into function
  • Indications, contra-indications and precautions of common dysfunctions encountered in the Studio

Audience

The course is suitable for sports, exercise and medical professionals including:

  • Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and other medical professionals
  • Sports Therapists & rehabilitation professionals
  • Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors
  • Strength & Conditioning Coaches
  • Exercise and Sports Scientists / Physiologists
  • Sports Coaches and Managers
  • Occupational Health Workers
  • Pilates Instructors

Participants MUST be able to demonstrate that the course material is within their scope of practice and that they have appropriate professional liability insurance to cover them for their attendance on the course and their course content.

Learning Outcomes

Following this module the students should be able to:

Design a retraining strategy based on the profile report

From the profile report and discussion of client goals plan a personalised training programme

Implement a client specific retraining programme based on the site, direction and threshold (alignment & coordination or strength and speed) of uncontrolled movement of the lower back and pelvis

Understand functional anatomy in relation to weak links at the low back and pelvis, and posture and alignment

Programme Outline

  • Functional anatomy and biomechanics of the lower back and pelvis
  • Alignment and posture of the lower back and pelvis
  • Review of the site and direction of uncontrolled movement at the lower back and pelvis
  • Muscle function and classification at the lower back and pelvis (global stability muscle system and global mobility muscle system)
  • Strategies to regain control of strength and speed weak links (both controlling the weak link and targeting specific muscles) - to include the use of speed and unstable bases to optimise control
  • Strategies to regain control of alignment and coordination weak links (both controlling the weak link and targeting specific muscles).  To include facilitation strategies, cuing and encouraging mindful movement
  • What about the core!
  • Functional integration
  • Indications, contra-indications and precautions of common dysfunctions encountered in the Pilates Studio/exercise studio
